Additional information

A stoma is usually performed either for malignancy or inflammatory bowel disease. It may be temporary or permanent.

If it is clear that a stoma has been performed for a different reason, that itself would not lead to deferral (e.g. following an accident or non-malignant obstruction), it is possible that the donor may be accepted. If there is any doubt, refer to a Designated Clinical Support Officer.
