Transfusion-transmissible infectious disease - Care and selection of whole blood and component donors (including donors of pre-deposit autologous blood) - Chapter 3

Every effort is made to prevent transmission of disease by careful and appropriate selection of donors. This includes ensuring that the donor is provided with clear, understandable and up-to-date information and also ensuring that the donor has understood this information (see Chapter 5).

Donors must be assessed for their exposure to any risk of acquiring a transfusion-transmissible infection. The latest JPAC Donor Selection Guidelines1 should be consulted for any donor with a relevant exposure history.
